The Mold-Sensitive Traveler's Packing List
What to bring, what to leave behind, and how to pack when your health depends on your environment
Traveling with mold sensitivity or mold illness requires a different kind of preparation. It's not just about what you pack — it's about how you pack it, what you leave behind, and what you bring along to protect yourself in a new environment. This list is designed for guests staying at The Eagle Greenhouse, but applies to any travel where a clean environment matters.
BEFORE YOU PACK — THE GOLDEN RULE
If your home has water damage, mold, or suspected mold, assume everything in it has been exposed. Pack with that in mind.
CLOTHING & SOFT GOODS✅ Seal all clothing in airtight zip-lock bags or vacuum seal bags before leaving home✅ Pack only what you genuinely need — fewer items means less risk✅ Choose clothing that can be washed in hot water when possible✅ Bring a dedicated laundry bag for worn items❌ Do not bring pillows, blankets, or soft items from a mold-affected home❌ Do not bring stuffed animals or fabric toys for children from an affected environment
LAUNDRY & CLEANING✅ EC3 Laundry Additive — add to every wash cycle (also stocked at The Eagle Greenhouse)✅ Borax — highly effective mold-neutralizing laundry booster (also stocked)✅ Your preferred fragrance-free detergent if you have one — or use what's provided✅ EC3 Mold Solution Spray — for wiping down hard-surface items before bringing inside✅ Fragrance-free hand soap if you have a specific brand you trust
PERSONAL CARE✅ All fragrance-free — shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, deodorant✅ Fragrance-free sunscreen✅ Your regular medications and supplements✅ Any specialized personal care products your provider has recommended❌ No perfume, cologne, or scented products of any kind❌ No aerosol sprays
HEALTH & SUPPLEMENTS✅ All current medications — bring more than you think you'll need✅ Your regular binders if you are on a CIRS protocol (cholestyramine, Welchol, charcoal, etc.)✅ Any supplements your provider has prescribed✅ A small first aid kit✅ Your provider's contact information and any relevant medical records✅ Insurance cards and any prior authorization documentation
ELECTRONICS & HARD GOODS✅ Wipe down all hard-surface items — laptop, phone, chargers, toiletry bags — with EC3 spray before bringing inside✅ Laptop, tablet, or e-reader✅ Phone charger and any adapters✅ Headphones❌ Do not bring electronics that have been stored in a water-damaged area without wiping them down first
FOOD & KITCHEN✅ Any specialty foods or dietary staples that are hard to find locally✅ Your preferred protein powder or meal replacement if applicable✅ Snacks for travel — airports and rest stops are not mold-sensitive-friendlyNote: The Eagle Greenhouse is fully stocked with non-toxic cookware and kitchen supplies. Organic grocery delivery is available through Instacart, Walmart Grocery, and Amazon Fresh.
COMFORT & WELLBEING✅ Any personal items that bring comfort — books, journals, items with personal meaning✅ A small fan if you sleep better with white noise✅ Eye mask and earplugs if you're a light sleeper✅ Whatever helps you rest — this is a healing stay, not an adventure trip
WHAT TO LEAVE BEHIND❌ Anything from a water-damaged or mold-affected area that isn't essential❌ Books, magazines, and cardboard — highly porous and carry spores readily❌ Upholstered items, pillows, or soft furnishings from home❌ Scented candles, diffusers, or any fragrance products❌ Your own cleaning products — the home is stocked with approved products
ARRIVING AT THE EAGLE GREENHOUSE When you arrive:
